Dell Latitude C640 Wifi Drivers For Mac
Picked up a C640 notebook without internal wifi. I bought a Dell DW1370 minipc card (Dell P/N Y8029) without drivers and am now paying for it. I have tried all kinds of combinations of Broadcom BCM94318MPG drivers, Dell drivers and various utilities all with no success. At best, the drivers will install with no errors shown in control panel (shows as DELL WIRELESS 1370 WLAN MINI-PCI CARD) but using the Dell utility (DELL WIRELESS WLAN CARD UTILITY, R140747 for I think it was the D510 driver/utility install ) shows not networks available. I run the diagnostics within the utility and all the tests pass.
Windows Zero configuration also doen't show any networks available. In the Bios, the minipci slot is active but in the field next to it says unknown MiNiPci device.
It is almost as if the card needs something to activate it for broadcasting. Card details as written on the card are:FCC# QDS-BRCM1016, Broadcom BCM94318MPG, DELL P/N Y8029 Rev.A00, CN-0Y8029-36214-580-033T, CMII ID:2004DJ2134. In the driver options, 'disable on wired lan connect' is disabled. Is there a driver out there that will actually work with this combination.
Hello.Tried the Fn+F2 buttons. Reset the bios to default (pressed 2 keys inside bios, can't remember which ones but must have worked, had to reset time), upgraded the bios to A10 level. Bios still shows as card as being installed in the minipci slot but previous line the states type of card still says unknown.
Popped the card out and cleaned the contact traces with contact cleaner, resnapped on the antennas and reseated card. Little led for the lan connector socket is lit ( left side of socket). The Dell diagnostics see's the card right down to seeing the MAC address. Windows XP system details also see's the card and reports details. Sort of at a lose now. Maybe just a bum card? Thank you for the info, any other things to try is really appreciated.
I received this same card installed and working in a Latitude D610, with XP. It reported itself as a 1370 Y8029. I bought this machine as a lease return from Dell Fin Services. It was not described as having 'any' wireless installed.
Backstory - not expecting wireless, I bought a New Intel Pro/Wireless 2200 B/G from E-bay beforre I got the D610. Then I got the 'D'610 and the 1370/y8029 worked. But by installing the Intel 2200 I bought for just shy of $30.00 on E-bay, it now reports the 'D'610 as a Centrino Mobile, which is a plus! Now I was replacing a 'C'610 with W2k installed and was using a PCMIA netgear card, but had an open mini-pci slot open, easy to get to and with antennaes in place. So I thought I could do a quick switch. So installed the the card from the D610 to the C610 and no go. Tried the 1370 software and it reported no card found.
Did the bios thingys I know about and no go. It did show a mini-pci device installed. Did a google search for broadcom drivers 'bcm94318mpg v4' and found windows drivers for xp/w2k. Got the broadcom drivers installed and Device Manager and other Utility Programs reported it as a bcm.

In short the card worked in a Lat D610xp, but not a Lat C610w2k. Edit: spelling, grammar. After trying every combination of Broadcomm and Dell drivers I was up against a brick wall. I advised the vendor that I had purchased the card from and he sent me a new one to try. Put the different card in, turned the PC on and voila!!!! Hooked up to the local router in 60 seconds. It used some broadcomm drivers that hadn't been cleaned off the PC yet and didn't use any 3rd party client software.
