When the file has exported, the Downloads list appears. If it doesn't, open it manually: For OS X 10.7 (Lion), click the Show Downloads button at the top right-hand corner of the Safari window as in the image below. For OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) choose Window Downloads. The file name will usually refer to the database platform from which you did Direct Export. Drag and drop the downloaded file onto the EndNote icon on the Dock.
EndNote will open and prompt you to select a library in which to import the references in the file. Click Open and EndNote will import the references. Alternatively, click the magnifying glass beside the file name to Show in Finder.
(If you click the file name, Safari will try and fail to open the file). Double-click on the downloaded file Choose Application. Next, select the EndNote folder from the Applications menuEndNote click Open.
If your EndNote library is already open the citation will be imported automatically. If not, you will be prompted to select a reference library. Using Firefox as your browser If using Firefox, you need to open EndNote before Direct Exporting any references. Otherwise, Firefox may prompt you to navigate to EndNote on your Mac via Open with Choose Applications EndNote.
